Join us for our 7th Annual Artifact Night! This year we are excited to give you an up close look at two portraits that until recently were part of a private collection. A descendant of Benjamin Franklin donated the portraits to Independence and after conservation; the two portraits will join the permanent exhibit in Second Bank.
The subjects in the portraits are William J. Duane, Secretary of the Treasury under President Andrew Jackson, and Deborah Bache (Mrs. William J) Duane, a granddaughter of Benjamin Franklin. The portraits were painted around 1815, possibly by Pennsylvania artist Jacob Eichholtz.
Come see the portraits before they are conserved and spend the evening with our curator as she goes in-depth on these “brand new” portraits to Independence National Historical Park!
