ABOUT ABOUT

From Phila. Homey to GTown Boy:  The Incredible Existence of Samuel Buckley Morris and How It Forever Changed the World

Rembrandt Peale introduced Samuel Buckley Morris to Philadelphia when the artist displayed the four-year-old child’s portrait in the Columbianum exhibition.  Born into the landed gentry of the federal city, young, precocious Samuel had a cosmopolitan upbringing.  Yet in his middle years, Morris reinvented himself.  Why?  This rollicking account of his fascinating life follows Morris through the early Republic and the Napoleonic Wars, across the Delaware and over the high seas, from urban mansion to country seat.  Thrill to the story of how Samuel turned his adversities into triumphs and became, in his quiet way, a crusader for social justice whose ideas and actions influenced education, financial and civic institutions and psychiatry for centuries to come.
