On July 12, 1804, Alexander Hamilton (c1755-1804) died from the wounds he received in a duel with Aaron Burr. During his tragically short life, Hamilton was a military hero during the American Revolution, a statesman, a Founding Father, and, as the new country’s first Secretary of the Treasury, the creator of the American financial system. He was an integral part of many important events that shaped the colonies into the United States of America. By his side for most of this time was his devoted wife, Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton (1757-1854).
Join us on July 12 – the 214th anniversary of Hamilton’s death - for a talk by Susan Holloway Scott, the bestselling author of I, Eliza Hamilton. Learn more about Alexander Hamilton from Eliza’s perspective, and why Eliza deserved to be a heroine in her own right. Ms. Scott will also discuss the research behind her historical fiction, and how she recreated the Hamiltons’ 18th century world – including the 1790s capitol city of Philadelphia. The talk will be followed by a book signing, and a toast to the lives and legacies of Alexander and Eliza Hamilton.
